Stand Close- Simon Stirling
There is nothing going on
in your head,
But theres something going on
that should be said,
And I want you to look at me for 6 seconds without blinking,
And I want you to stand next to me a foot closer than you should,
So please read my signals
I've been waiting long enough,
I need you to see now,
that I'm not so tough,
Now stand close
and come into my space,
But breathe slow
and figure out my face,
Stand close
You say there's nothing happening in your life,
But there's something happening to cause my strife,
And I need you to draw me in your sketchbook full of people,
And I need you write to me about nothing and it's curse,
So now just come over
forget all the cliff edge risks,
Step here and remember
all that was for this kiss,
Now stand close
and come into my space,
But breathe slow
and figure out my face,
Stand close
Speak to me,
do you even know my language,
An impossible task,
just to get in your complex head,
Look at me,
do you think I am what you thought,
It's a different light,
but you can't keep living and loving in the dark,
Now stand close
and come into my space,
But breathe slow
and figure out my face,
Stand close.
KEY:
Stand Close: Verse
Stand Close: Bridge
Stand Close: Chorus
Stand Close: Extended Chorus
After much debate and listening to the track we came up with three individual ideas to what we thought the lyrics meant, although strangely we all had the same idea, we felt rather it being about a person who has lost a love one, we felt it was more inclined that it is about a person who is lost in their own mind and is struggling to find themselves and almost to be individual in a very one minded society, the person is on a journey of self discovery.
Conclusion:
We did this task so we could fully understand what the artist was trying to say when he wrote these lyrics after we decided on our interpretation we contacted Simon and in fact he told us that that was the closest interpretation of this song he'd heard, this way we could make the best music video that could interpret the lyrics the best.
Maybe more analysis, so suggest possible situations that go on at certain points in the song to do with the lyrics or song.
